Abstract

Os parceiros do rio Bonito may be read as a comprehensive interpretation of Brazilian society’s processes of “formation” and “modernization,” analyzed from the perspective of the caipira’s social world. Presented by Antonio Candido as his doctoral thesis in Sociology at USP in 1954 and published ten years later, this work dialogues with the Brazilian intellectual traditions of essayism and the social sciences, in associations examined in this paper.
