Abstract

The essay defends Oswald de Andrade's attitude regarding the Modern Art Week of 1922, as opposed to the fading enthusiasm for early modernism demonstrated in the 1940s and 50s by numerous intellectuals (the poets of the 1945 generation, Sérgio Miliet and Clima magazine's group, Mário de Andrade), whose position was shaded by a critical review of the movement.
