Abstract

The article develops the theme of the importance of the humorous for the formation of early modernism, insofar as it reveals the cultural contradictions of the Brazil of the period. Humor is presented as a type of social satire, as expressed in the manifestos and joke-poems, particularly in Oswald de Andrade but also in other writers of the period.
