Abstract

The critical aim of Antonio Candido results of the materialistic understanding of the literary form that does not separate historical comment and formal analysis, always articulating both territories in his dialectical reading. “The kings’ fault”, essay in which he focuses Shakespeare’s tragedy Richard II, is a revealing example of such analytical practice.
