Author Guidelines

  • The submitted works must be unpublished and may be written in Spanish, French, English and Portuguese.
  • To ensure a double-blind peer reviewed assessment, articles should not mention, in the body of the text, the name of the author or the institution to which he is linked. If the text is accepted, the author will insert his name after the title.
  • In case of quoting himself, the author must hide his name as the title of the work, replacing it by "author". If the work is accepted, the reference will be completed in the review step.  
  • We accept works written in co-authorship.
  • Authors must be graduate.
  • Articles must present title, abstract and keywords in Portuguese and English. If the articles are presented in another language (French or Spanish), they should have title, abstract and keywords also in the chosen language.

Length of Text

  • Articles for the AteliêIncipit and Tradução sections must have a minimum of 10 pages and a maximum of 15 pages.
  • For the Facsimile section, the maximum length is 1900 characters counting spaces
  • The Comentário (review) and Diálogo (interview) sections must have a maximum of 5 pages.

Paragraphs and margins

  • 1,5 cm paragraph indentation, single space between lines and paragraphs.
  • Direct quotes, with more than three lines, should be highlighted with a 4 cm indentation from the left margin, in body 11, round and without quotation marks. The pages must be configured in A4 format, without numbering, with 3 cm on the upper and left margins, and 2 cm on the lower and right margins.

General formatting

  • Submitted papers must be typed in Word, in the “.doc” or “.docx” formats.
  • Font: Times New Roman; single space, body 12
  • Resumo and Abstract: maximum of 200 words, body 12, round, single space. Keywords: up to 5 words, separated by semicolons.
  • Essay title: body 12, upper and lower case, centralized and in bold.
  • Title of books, periodicals: in italics; story, poems, and articles titles: in quotes.
  • Footnotes: body 10, single space and presented at the bottom of the page. They must be compact, including only explanations that cannot be presented throughout the text.

Quotations

  • Direct citations, with less than 3 lines, must be incorporated into the text, in quotation marks, followed by the reference on the footnotes;
  • Direct citations, with more than 3 lines, must be indented to the left by 4cm, size 11 and simple between the lines, separating them from the body of the text with a space before and after. 
  • Highlights of foreign words or expressions must be in italics;
  • All citations must be followed by bibliographic indications, in a footnote, containing complete information, such as the author's last name and initial letter of the first name (in capital letters), title, location, publisher and year of publication and the page (s) of the cited text, according to the example: CAMPOS, T. Indústria Cultural e Sociedade. São Paulo: Paz e Terra, 2002, p. 194.
  • Observe the correct use of the following words and expressions:
      • “Idem”: the same author of the immediately previous note and different work;
      • “Ibidem”: the same author and the same work, chapter or page of the immediately preceding note;
      • “Op. cit.”: the work was mentioned in a distant note.

Images and Translation

The author must be responsible for authorizing the publication of manuscripts, images and translations, if they are not in the public domain. It is mandatory that you have a document of the rights holder on the translated work and images, authorizing its translation and publication in Revista Manuscrítica. It is imperative that the author / translator sends this document when submitting the text. The journal is not responsible for obtaining copyright of images.

The images must be sent in a separate file from the article, in Supplementary Documents, and must have a minimum resolution of 300 dpi, .jpg format. The author must propose an approximate size and location for the publication of the image on the page. The images must also be included in the text, to facilitate the visualization of the referees and the later layout of the article, being accompanied by their respective captions, in the pattern: Fig. (Number in ascending order). Author, Title, year. Reference.

Notes standardization summary

The author must present the bibliographic references in alphabetical order by the surname of the first author, according to the example: Author's surname, Author's name. Bold book title. Publisher city: publisher, year. (The author's name must be in small caps, upper and lower case)

Book

  • When there are 2 or 3 authors do the following: Damião, R. T .; Henriques, A. Course in legal law. São Paulo: Atlas, 1995.
  • From 4 authors, only the first author is mentioned and then the expression et al.: Urani, A. et al. Constituição de uma matriz de contabilidade social para o Brasil. Brasília, DF: IPEA, 1994.
  • Indicate the translator's name after the title.

Book chapter

  • Author's last name, First name. Chapter title. In: author's last name, name. Book title: subtitle if any. Edition number. City: Name of publisher, year of publication, p. page number or page range used.
  • If the author is the same as the author of the book and chapter: Author's surname, Name. Chapter title. In: ______. Title: subtitle if any. Edition number. City: Name of publisher, year of publication, p. page number or range used.

Annals

  • Author's last name, First name. Title of the article: subtitle if any. In: Name of the event, edition number of the event in Arabic numerals corresponding to its edition (from the second occurrence), year of the event, city of the event. Type of publication ... (Annals or Abstracts or Proceedings) City of publication: Publishing institution, year of publication, p. initial page number - end of article page number.

Internet

  • Author's last name, First name. Title: subtitle if any. Available at: <full URL>. Accessed in: day month (abbreviated to the third letter, except May) year.

Thesis

Author's last name, First name. Title: subtitle if any. Defense year. Total number pages. Thesis (Doctorate in ‘area of knowledge ’). Faculty name, University name, Institution city, year.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
