This article aims to bring new elements for the comprehension of distinctive features in Flaubert’s writing trough the comparative analysis of his travel notes to the ones of Maxime Du Camp. The comparison encompasses unpublished manuscripts and a variety of texts related to their journey to the Orient from 1849 to 1851. Similarities in subjects and ways of writing from both Flaubert and Du Camp in these texts denote reciprocal influence. The analysis concerns the genesis of Flaubert's writing style and, more precisely, the construction of images and scenes.Downloads
