Accessible writings of Edvard Munch (1863-1944): the manuscript MM N 122

Abstract

An artist’s pictorial work can be accessed in their own words, that is, in the written records left by him about his production and his experiences, via primary source, produced in the context and instant of the events. With this in mind, I present the translation from Norwegian to Portuguese of one of the manuscripts left by Edvard Munch (1863-1944) and made available by the Munch Museum, as a relevant document for research on his pictorial work. In this sense, the translation from the original of these source writings by Munch acts as a means-method of democratizing its content. The translation respects the draft form of the text and is preceded by a defense of this practice of making access to primary sources of artists’ writings somewhat less restricted and by a brief note about the artist.
