The space for artistic experimentation as a creative laboratory in the production of artists' books

This article presents the experience of a discipline from the postgraduate course in Visual Arts, that takes place within the engraving laboratory for postgraduate students (2023), which promoted, in an organic way and with no regular guidance, collective artistic experimentation in the production of artist's books. In addition to that, it aims to reflect on the artistic practice of the students in a plural environment and with the guidance of artist-teachers—teachers who also work as artists and, therefore, were able to share theoretical and practical knowledge in a continuous and collective praxis. After a procedural analysis of the development of students’ projects, we sought to reflect on the relationship between artistic practice in the laboratory and the results obtained by them. Among the questions raised, are: the environment conducive to sharing knowledge, the relevance of the process for defining the statement, and the importance of teacher-artist contact in the development of tasks in which practice drives the theoretical and vice versa.
