Abstract

This paper intends to sketch an overview on the role of the concept of Romanization in the studies about the contact between the Romans and the people from regions outside the Italian peninsula. The analysis of this concept will be made with the changes the discipline of History has been passing through since the 19th century as its background, aiming at how the paradigm changes, from the Nation State to the Identity models for antiquity, impact the uses and meanings of that concept.
