This paper deals with a debate on the place of Ancient History in Brazil. It's not about the academic research or disciplinary teaching, but a broad debate on the Ancient History as social memory. To develop this debate, itis necessary consider the notion of History and Antiquity related to it, as well as the recent criticisms about the civilizational and universal discourse that highlighted the Ancient Historyin several historical narratives. Thus, the debate about the specificity of the place of Ancient History in Brazil is presented in dialogue with the criticisms on the field, in its international reach, but mainly the specificities of Brazilian society.
