This critical review analyzes Roger Odin’s work Os espaços de comunicação: Introdução à semiopragmática. The author breaks new ground by proposing the notion of “communication spaces” as a way to move beyond the traditional concept of “context,” investigating how natural, narrative, and linguistic constraints shape communicative competence. By considering the diachronic evolution of these scenarios, Odin applies the semiopragmatic model to various objects of study, expanding the debate into the multidisciplinary field and reinforcing the urgency of a more flexible theoretical reflection.
