Questioning about the future of semiotics requires us, now more than ever, to look at the urgencies of our contemporary societies. From an interest in the study of religious social practices of great magnitude, complexity and relevance in Peru, such as the pilgrimage to the Shrine of the Lord of Qoyllurit’i, we ask ourselves to what extent semiotics offers us tools for an ethical commitment to the environment. To this end, we will highlight four aspects of nature: earth, stones, snow-capped mountains and the sun, which are essential parts of the pilgrimage rituals. The ecological ethics of Andean Quechua culture offer us a way of proposing an ethical commitment to our discipline.
