Abstract

In Television : technology and social form, which is appearing in Portuguese for the first time more than forty years after it was written, Raymond Williams challenged technological determinism by showing that information and communication technologies are results rather than causes of social phenomena. With a broad and contemporary approach, the ideas of this pioneer of cultural studies shed light even on such phenomena as today's digital convergence, despite the fact that he never experienced them personally.
