Abstract

Madness is a phenomenon investigated for decades by Psychology. Its concept has undergone numerous changes throughout history, changes influenced by various historical factors. Many comic books present the figure of the madman to the lay public. Based on the work of Michel Foucault, representations of madness in some comic books from the 1980s will be analyzed, especially those written by authors Alan Moore and Grant Morrison.

Author Biography

  • Mayk Andreele do Nascimento, Universidade Federal de Alagoas

    Graduated in Social Sciences from the Federal University of Paraíba (2007), Masters in Sociology from the Federal University of Paraíba (2010) and Ph.D. in Sociology from the Federal University of Paraíba (2014). He is currently Adjunct Professor IV at the Federal University of Alagoas-Palmeira dos Índios. He has experience in the field of Anthropology and Sociology, with an emphasis on contemporary Cultural Studies, working mainly on the following themes: cities; popular and urban cultures; blackness and ethnicity; music and periphery.
