Abstract

This work seeks to identify, through a diachronic reading of the mediation’s map by Jesús Martín-Barbero, how the Western as a fictional genre is reconfigured in the television show Breaking Bad. Its objective is to discern in which way the cultural matrix of the western is articulated in the show, and how it reconfigures such matrix, amplifying the horizon of expectations for the genre. Initially, however, this paper proceeds a brief review of the reflections on genres, and then it is finalized with an examination of how Cultural Studies approach this issue. From that, we conduct a more specific analysis, which this investigation
proposes.
