This article discusses the production of the meanings of aids in the female universe through the notion of mediation. The term aims at outlining the symbolic representations that make up the epidemic among women. Our theory is that the relationships that women afflicted by HIV/aids have with society are full of silences that affect them twice: due to the stigma of the disease itself and to the power relations that they face with their partners. Yet, despite this reality, they seek alternative ways of appeasing the condition that affects women that are afflicted by HIV/aids in Brazil.Downloads
