Abstract

This article discusses the contributions of a philosophy of caring for the construction of a cosmopolitan citizenship in a globalized world. The human ability to empathize with diverse others, be sensitive to their needs and respond appropriately will play a key role in a globalized world of growing interdependences. The article is structured in three parts, beginning with a brief introduction to the ethics of care. Secondly the article addresses the importance of a philosophy of caring to challenge some key assumptions about human nature. Finally we point out the potential of the ethics of care to address moral issues in global contexts.
