Author Guidelines

The editorial team of Paisagem e Ambiente: Ensaios is responsible for deciding which articles, essays, conferences, debates, reviews, experience reports and technical notes will be published, considering their theoretical consistency and the relevance of their themes for the journal's editorial line.

 

Since 2015, the submission of manuscripts to Paisagem e Ambiente: Ensaios has been carried out through its page on the USP Journals Platform.

 

Articles must be submitted to the journal as follows:

1 - Enter the journal's website:

http://www.revistas.usp.br/paam

 

2 - Click on “Access”.

 

3 – In the first access, fill the personal information in the “Registration” item. If you are already registered, just login.

 

4 – Follow the system instructions to make the submission.

 

Registration in the system is free and must be done through a login and password, which are required for the submission, as well as the monitoring of the ongoing editorial process.

 

Formal aspects of manuscripts

 

TEXT SETTINGS

- A4 page;

- Top and bottom margins 3cm;

- Side margins 2 cm;

- Use of “double quotes” only for citation in the body of the text;

- Use of italics for foreign terms and titles of books and journals;

- Use of bold to highlight terms in the text.

- Website addresses informed in the text should receive of a hyperlink;

- Images, graphs and tables in the body of the text (with due credits, as described in item 8).

 

1 - Title of the paper in Portuguese and English (or Spanish and English), necessarily in that order, separated by a line. The title must be written in bold capital letters (in English, without bold). The subheading is not required; if there is, it must be written in capital letters without bold (the same for subtitles in English).

 

2 – Name(s) of the author(s) must be followed by a note with the following information: Institution and affiliation (eg: Master's student; PhD student); city, state and country; postal address and e-mail must appear in a footnote, indicated by an asterisk on the opening page.

If there are acknowledgments, they must appear on the last page of the article, after the bibliographic references.

 

3 – Abstract in Portuguese and English (or Spanish and English), necessarily in that order, separated by a line. Abstracts are required.

- Abstracts must contain between 5 and 10 lines, font Times New Roman, 12, single spacing.

- The general research proposal, theoretical framework, objectives and methodologies must be presented in the abstract.

 

4 - Keywords in Portuguese and English (or Spanish and English):

- From 3 to 6;

- They must be inserted below the abstract, separated by dot.

- One or two indexing terms from the USP Controlled Vocabulary available at <http://143.107.154.62/Vocab/Sibix652.dll/Assuntos> must be included among the manuscript's keywords.

 

5 - Full text must be typed in Times New Roman font, size 12 and spacing 1.5. It must be sent in doc format.

 

6 - The article must contain from 21,600 to 43,200 characters (with spaces), including abstract and introduction. The abstract must have 100 to 200 words. Subtitles, notes and bibliographic references are also considered in the character limit.

 

7 – Images: the journal considers that a landscaping paper should present illustrations, which clarify the reader about the spaces and places in question. The material, in JPG format, resolution of 300 dpi and size of 725X500 pixels, must be accompanied by identification subtitles.

 

The author(s) must ensure the good quality of the images according to their size. The maps must accompany legends in a separate file, to be included in an appropriate size if it is necessary to reduce their original dimensions.

 

If the images are not in the minimum conditions for editing, the authors will be asked to replace them immediately, and their absence may make the publication of the article unfeasible.

 

If images from other authors are used, Paisagem e Ambiente: Ensaios journal requests the presentation, in an attached file presented at the time of submission, the authorization for use by the holders of their copyrights (image authorship form).

 

8 - Subtitles: all images - drawings, sketches, maps, graphs, tables, photos, schemes - must have explanatory subtitles, showing their authorship and relationship with the text according to the examples:

 

  • Drawings and sketches

9 - Explanatory footnotes will be accepted as long as they are essential and brief. They must be numbered with Arabic numerals, Times New Roman font, size 10 and typed with single spacing.

 

10 - Notes and bibliographic references

Bibliographic references must follow the rules of ABNT NBR 6023/2018, remembering that the title must be highlighted in bold. If the cited document has a DOI [1] its registration is mandatory at the end of the reference data.

 

FULL BOOK

AUTHOR'S LAST NAME, Name(s). Book’s title: subtitle (if any). Edition number (being 1 ed., not required). City of publication: Name of publisher, date of publication. Total number of pages or sheets (one sheet is equivalent to two pages: front and back), using the abbreviations p. or f.

AUTHOR'S LAST NAME, Name(s). Title of the chapter: subtitle (if any) followed by the expression “In:” complete reference of the work (title of the same in bold). At the end, the pagination of the chapter (beginning - end).

Note: the expression "et al." should be used when the work or chapter has more than three authors. Only the name of the first author is placed in this case.

 

JOURNAL

TITLE. Place of publication: Publisher, Year of the first issue.

QUOTES

 

When an excerpt from the work is quoted literally, it must appear in quotation marks, with the author's last name, the date of publication used and the page where the excerpt is in parentheses, after it.

Examples:

 

According to George (1985, p. 44), “[...] Oswald manipulates the language of love [...]”.

 

Oliveira and Leonardos (1943, p. 146) say that the “[...] relationship of the São Roque series with the small porphyroid granites is very clear”.



When the author's last name is in parentheses, it must be written in capital letters.

Examples:

 

“Despite appearances, the deconstruction of logocentrism is not a psychoanalysis of philosophy [...]” (DERRIDA, 1967, p. 293).

 

“Don't move, pretend you're dead” (CLARAC; BONNIN, 1985, p. 72).

 

 

Note: any literal quotation with more than three lines must be highlighted with a 4 cm indent from the left margin, and must not be enclosed in quotation marks.

 

If an excerpt of the text is based on the work of the consulted author, but not literally taken from it, the author's surname and the date of the consulted work must be included.

Examples:

Irony would thus be an implicit form of heterogeneity, according to the classification proposed by Authier-Reiriz (1982).

 

Merriam and Caffarella (1991) note that resource location plays a crucial role in the self-directed learning process.

 

For study purposes, the units can be subdivided into subunits, in order to allow a detailing on another scale (MACEDO, 1997).

 

Several authors emphasize the importance of the “triggering event” at the beginning of a learning process (CROSS, 1984; KONX, 1986; MEZIROW, 1991).

 

Note: if there are two or three authors, put their last names in alphabetical order.

 

If an author is cited by another, use the expression “apud” (cited by), inform the date of publication of both and page.

Examples:

In Gough's serial model (1972 apud NARDI, 1993, p. 30), the act of reading involves a serial process that begins with an eye fixation on the text, proceeding from left to right in a linear fashion.

 

Emphasizing the cultural diversities of the landscapes that appropriate his work, Oiticica disdains the nationalist and reactionary ideas instilled “[...] of the biggest forest in the world, the biggest river in the world, the biggest I don’t-know-what in the world [...]” (OITICICA, 1977 apud AMARAL, 2006, p. 124).

 

FINAL REMARKS

After submission, the conditions of the originals are carefully analyzed. The works that do not comply with the rules described here will be returned for regularization.

The signed texts are the sole responsibility of the authors and there will be no alteration of content without prior authorization.

The editorial decision, based on the evaluation of the scientific council, is the responsibility of the Editorial Team.

 

¹ After evaluation by the editorial team, accepted articles undergo a text review performed by the journal's professional, who contacts the authors whenever necessary. Paisagem e Ambiente: Ensaios journal adopts the updated spelling according to the Orthographic Agreement of the Portuguese Language of 1990, which came into force in Brazil in 2009.

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to verify submission compliance with all items listed below. Submissions that do not comply with these guidelines will be returned to the authors.

  • Papers in Portuguese, English or Spanish are accepted. The revision of the language of submissions in English or Spanish is the responsibility of the author(s) and adjustments may be requested.
  • The contribution must be original and unpublished, and not be evaluated for publication by another journal simultaneously; otherwise, it must be justified in "Comments to the editor". Similarity verification tools are used.
  • The submission file must be in Microsoft Word, OpenOffice or RTF format.
  • URLs for references should be provided whenever possible.
  • The text must be 1.5 spacing; 12-point font; italics instead of underlining (except for URL addresses); figures and tables must be inserted in the text, not at the end of the document or in the form of annexes.
  • The text must follow the style standards and bibliographic requirements described in Guidelines for Authors, on the About the Journal page.
  • The metadata (title, abstract/abstract and keywords/keywords) must be filled correctly (required in English and Spanish or English and Portuguese).
  • Documents with DOI must be properly identified in the bibliography.
  • The text will be submitted to double-blind review and must comply with the instructions available in Ensuring blind peer review (withdrawal of the identification of the authors of the manuscript in word).
  • All communications between the journal and the author are kept confidential. Authors must designate a specific email contact at the time of submission, which will be used during the evaluation and publication process (in case of acceptance). All email contacts take place internally to the system, ensuring confidentiality between reviewers and authors.
  • Manuscripts from funded research must declare the sources of funding at the end of the text.
  • Manuscripts whose methodology involves research with people must present a statement that the research was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the host institution.
  • Paisagem e Ambiente: Ensaios uses Ithenticate to check for plagiarism and/or self-plagiarism. This procedure constitutes the initial stage of the editorial flow, regarding all submissions received.
  • In cases of plagiarism and/or self-plagiarism, the manuscript will be rejected and the authors will be immediately informed.
