Republic square is one of the main public free areas that Belém has..Located next to the historical center, this area has become a reference to the urban organization of the city and a symbolical mark of a promising period of Pará capital since middle 19th century. Known originally as Largo.da.Pólvora, the area went through significant changes in its morfological structure, being the most important during officer Antônio José Lemos´s period between 1897 and 1912..This experiment intends to study the square, outlining a historical panorama and analysing its main morfological caracteristics in the begining of the 20th century and the structure that distiguishes its areas nowadays.
