Espaço arquitetônico x apropriação: estudo de caso no Centro do Rio de Janeiro - Largo da Carioca e rua Uruguaiana

Abstract

This paper issues the spatial appropriative forms in two different areas of study downtown Rio de Janeiro, Largo da Carioca and Uruguaiana St., as well as their surrounding areas, taking into consideration the existent physical support - the base for their formal development - and the built massive area in the immediate vicinity that influences, stimulates and configures the mental and urban image of these areas. Based on the morphologic elements of José Lamas so as to focus the analysis and interpretation of the physical surroundings, and the spatial configuring elements of Kevin Lynch, which outline and settle the notion of the city image, we propose a confrontation between the architectural structural form of the space, analised over the physical aspects, and the human domain over it, considering the sociological and appropriative aspects.
