Abstract

Concerning urban forestry, the relationship established between the trees and the population is a relevant issue which is little explored in academic studies. This paper aims to study this relationship, looking at the trees values and meanings for the city's inhabitants. It is inserted in a broader study concerned with an understanding of how the population perceives and assimilates the urban forestry designed by the landscape designer Roberto Burle Marx. For this end, it has as a case study a sector from Rio's waterfront area.
