Abstract

This work is a revision of a paper originally elaborated in 1987 (unpublished, just supplied as material of didactic support to students) as part of a conceptual approach of the field and the object investigated in the master's degree (1986-1993, developed with the orientation of the teacher Miranda Martinelli Magnoli, PhD, in Faculdade de Arquitetura e Urbanismo da Universidade de São Paulo, Brazil). This review is based on some hypothesis to be deepened, but that already allow to put in subject what is landscape. A definition is not intended. We hoped to contribute for conceptual approach that preserves the enormous wealth and complexity of the landscape, thought as a vast field of meanings, tensions and social contradictions.
