The present text focuses in the initial procedures adopted by QUAPÁ-SEL São Paulo team for the analysis of the São Paulo city open spaces system, integrating the project The open spaces system and the constitution of the contemporary public realm in Brazil. This previous approach deals with the premise that there is a dependent and complementary relation between the public and the private open spaces, and therefore, the necessary comprehension of the structure and morphology of the private open spaces in order to evaluate the needs and actions related to the public realm. The plants presented are an effort to understand the use and occupation plot patterns, not only the ones predicted in the urban legislation, but the ones found in the urban occupation in general, characterizing the urban morphology and its verticalization. QUAPÁ-SEL São Paulo team study case is the São Paulo Metropolitan Region – this first essay, still in development, concentrates in São Paulo city. Due to its complexity, diversity of forms and patterns, and extension, allow us to develop a methodology that may be applied in the study of other regions. Initially, maps guidelines implementations are presented, followed by the main questions revealed in the prior analysis.Downloads
