Abstract

In order to support the agenda set up by the Landscape Studies Group (NEP/FAUUSP) at the time of its constitution (2003), which established the landscape as a sensible study field with political implications, I wrote in 2004 three papers, one of them remaining unpublished since, except between students in my classes. Now, its publication — with additions — complements the access to the original propositions on landscape that feed the Group’s agenda. This paper presents the poetical, sensible and existential dimensions that I believe are necessary to the landscape studies. These are among the principles which stand at the basement of the research procedures and action briefs that we develop along with the population, looking for establishing an understanding of the landscape dependent on the direct interaction with the people. These works postulate a precise way of knowing and producing knowledge, strongly connected to the experience and the experiencing, all of which converge on the concept of the landscape as a shared experience. Although this being the grounding of the NEP’s proposal, the approach found in our studies share other ways of approaching, as those ones that make us able to work with the spatial structures and their dynamics.
