Abstract

This paper presents a brief introduction to the problem of epistemology and its relation to environmental education. It also briefly presents some requirements for the construction of an environmental epistemology and suggests that, in order to discuss issues related to development and environment, there is a need for practices supported by interdisciplinary methods, bringing natural, social and life sciences together so as to promote dialogue. Based on those categories of analysis and the ways they are applied to research, the "Environmental Education and Epistemology" Research Group has worked on some issues during the V EPEA, held in 2009 in São Carlos, São Paulo.
