This paper aims to demonstrate the potential of the Local Climate Zones (LCZ) mapping method applied to two urban studies with different objectives and scales. Originally developed for urban climate studies, this paper presents different applications of the method: in its original application, in studies of changes in urban vegetation cover, in a metropolitan area, and in studies of morphology and urban structure, in a middle-sized city. The results demonstrate the suitability of the method to research with different approaches and scales of analysis, and since it uses free data and free software, it can be a possibility for researchers and urban planners who wish to know and monitor the morphological characteristics, incorporating effectively to decision-making and management instruments.
