Abstract

This paper is an assessment of the 10th National Meeting of ANPUR - The National Association of Graduate Studies and Research in Urban and Regional Planning, which took place in May 2003. An overview of the event's activities is followed by a brief analysis of the contributions, according to their regional origins. Next, the paper presents the central theme of the conference, expressing the challenge posed to researchers, followed by a thematic assessment of the main issues discussed by authors of the papers selected. There is clear evidence of important improvements in conceptual terms and as far as social-spatial practices are concerned. At the same time some constraints are identified, giving rise to new challenges that must be overcome.
