Abstract

By applying the concepts of" republic" and" humanism" to the universe of architecture and urbanism, this article discusses the position of the architectural monument within the polis and in daily life. Were it not for this daily life and its architecture, architectural monuments would not exist, and vice versa. Based on this theoretical demarcation, we assess the" architectural monument," from modernism up to the present day, and our own way of conceiving, designing, and living in the city today, if it still survives as a place of changes and desires, and not just as a place of consumption, spectacle, and boundless pleasure.
