Biosafety and architecture in public health laboratories

In the planning of buildings to house laboratory facilities, particularly special environments such as public health offices, architecture is based on the premise that the physical space is essential to ensure the reliability of the results and assays performed in these facilities, as well as to protect human, animal, and environmental health. A survey of safety conditions may be achieved by creating an architectural program establishing the relations between the available areas in a laboratory facility and activities performed in them, from the functional and environmental perspectives, without necessarily having to create a formal architectural project. This article presents some of the necessary characteristics of such facilities to support architects in designing a laboratory building.Downloads
