Abstract

Carlos Granés (Bogotá, 1975), writer and essayist, PhD in Social Anthropology from the Complutense University of Madrid and a scholarship holder at the University of Berkeley, California, where he completed his thesis on Anthropology of Art with an Extraordinary Prize. He has recently published an extensive study - full of data and examples - that helps to understand the thinking and feeling of the Ibero-American continent. A period that spans more than a century, in which the life of the peoples of Latin America - politics, art, dreams, conquests and failures - is mixed with the very heartbeat of its people. A pleasant read that draws attention and leads the reader by the hand to introduce him to this peculiar universe. A serious study that does not admit simplifications or simple interpretations. A true American adventure captured in an essay of global repercussion. I offer below some considerations that its reading provoked in me: not as a summary - which would be arrogant - but to encourage all Latin Americans to read it. To those who are by origin or to those of us who have become adopted children of this fascinating Continent.
