Hyperrealism and strategic dissonance in Latin America: methodological operationalization of contradiction and its application to the case study of Chile within the context of Sino–American rivalry

This article presents the first empirical application of the Hyperrealism Index (IHR), a methodological tool designed to measure strategic dissonance between discourse and behavior in international politics. Within the field of International Relations, the study engages with the literature on Latin American autonomy and the systemic rivalry between the United States and the People’s Republic of China, incorporating paraconsistent logic as a formal foundation to model the coexistence of contradictory evidence. Methodologically, the IHR operates through an evidence-based evaluation matrix composed of favorable (μ) and unfavorable (λ) inputs, from which the indices of contradiction (C), certainty (S), and uncertainty (U) are derived, and weighted through explicit parameters (α, β, γ). The model is applied to the case of Chile during the administration of Gabriel Boric, within the context of contemporary geopolitical competition. The findings identify a pattern of moderate hyperrealism, consistent with strategies of adaptive pragmatism under conditions of systemic pressure. The study advances the IHR as a replicable methodological prototype for comparative analysis in Latin America and other international contexts.
