Abstract

Evidence suggests that contemporary Moral Developmental Psychology seems to have abandoned Carol Gilligan’s theory of moral development. Some issues related to the dissemination of this author’s ideas in Brazil are added to this, denoting that her theory has stagnated over time. This article, therefore, seeks both to present Gilligan’s theory and its epistemological, theoretical and methodological implications, and the revisions that it has undergone over the years. Despite constituting the feminist epistemic critique of Science from the beginning, over time Gilligan asserted her break with the modern paradigm of Science, historically perpetuated in the psychological study of morality. Moral Developmental Psychology, it seems, was not open to Gilligan’s perspective because it questions its own foundations, thus this field seems to resist epistemic revisions that break with its epistemological origins, including Gilligan’s.
