ANALYSIS OF SÃO ROQUE WINE-GROWING CLUSTER

Abstract

This work aims to report the results of the field research performed at São Roque’s wine industry, a town in São Paulo city’s neighborhood. That research was performed with the aim of supplying a mastery dissertation in Administration with data; its objective was to investigate how the enterprises belonging to the wine cluster compete with one another. Among the seven specific objectives one of them aimed to characterize the existence of a cluster and to determine its maturation degree and its vigor, according to Zaccarelli’s nine proposed requirements. For a good comprehension of the article, Zaccarelli’s and other main authors’ thought, which deal with the theme is described. The data were gotten by means of an inquiry, containing 46 qualitative yes/no questions needed by the range of the mentioned specific objective. Among the nine proposed requirements proposed by Zaccarelli, six were confirmed by at least ten of the twelve researched enterprises, allowing to conclude that there is an incomplete wine cluster in the neighborhood of São Roque. The three items which did not satisfy the requirements: low rate of cooperation among the enterprises, technological unlevelness and lack of interest of the public agencies in strengthening the cluster, are the reason for the declustering process. In short, there is a dismantling process of the wine cluster in the neighborhood of São Roque.
