Abstract

This work is developed to explore how technology-based companies employ corporate entrepreneurship. More specifically, it seeks to learn about the benefits, difficulties, risks, and advantages of this kind of entrepreneurship. Findings show that the corporate entrepreneurship is essential to technology-based companies that are embedded in business environments characterized by intense rivalry among competitors. The success of corporate entrepreneurship does not come from passive actions but depends on a number of aspects that involve the characteristics of the entrepreneur, the position of the new business development area within the organization, and the environmental conditions provided by the company. The entrepreneurial orientation of a company is emphasized as a means to support its competitiveness and to reinforce the alignment with the resourced-based view since its main domain is innovation, which is carried out by people. Keywords: corporate entrepreneurship, competitiveness, technology-based companies.
