With the implementation of Integrated Production of Apple (PIM), the chain of Brazilian apple demonstrated concern with the demands presented by the consumer market and, moreover, confirmed their position as a pioneering segment of innovation in Brazilian agribusiness. Thus, this study aimed to describe the implementation of the PIM, and, through interviews with industry experts who participated in this implementation, examine whether it can be considered an interactive process of innovation. We also consulted files of Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa) and the Brazilian Association of Apple Producers (ABPM). After analyzing the data, we considered the implementation of the Integrated Production of Apple as an integrative model of innovation, where the centre is a company interacting with another company or the relationship between companies and the system of science and technology. This research found that the implementation of the PIM was an example of innovative process carried out in the production chain of apple.Downloads
