Abstract

This paper proposes a discussion around political projects and public policies adopted by municipal, state and federal governments and the civil body directed to poor and abandoned children of Bahia in the period comprising the years 1904 to 1942. For this purpose we track the looks directed to this social group from the colonial period to the mid-twentieth century, seeking to realize the historicity of the changes around the childhood project (baiana, in particular) thought by political and civil society to satisfy their best interests. The secular clipping is justified based on the range of the foundation of two institutions directed to poor and abandoned children of Bahia: the Bahia League Against Infant Mortality (1923) and Assistance Division Maternity, Childhood and Adolescence (1942).
