Abstract

São Paulo and Pernambuco integrated part of the territories belonging to the Portuguese Empire, and in the same way as all other regions, these "parts" in various forms influenced the formation of Overseas’ characteristics. However, the sugar mills and the role of prominence demonstrate by Pernambuco, Bahia and adjacencies, were always considered the best symbol for the colonial economy and Brazil’s wealth. So far the most significant discoveries of gold, the interests of conquerors kings had been come back essentially toward the northeast sugar. However, less expressive supplies’ trade also attract interests in taxes collected; and supervision was intense. To present a first assessment of the roles of the two regions mentioned within the Empire, in view of the various interests involved, is what we want to achieve in this article.
