Abstract

This article focus on the difficult relations between the Integralist movement and the implementation of the Brazilian Estado Novo (1937-1945) and shows how the first come to be seen as an enemy of dictator Getulio Vargas' Regime. This work shows how behind of press apparent neutrality it has in fact followed down the dictatorship mechanisms of reinforcing Vargas legitimacy. In this process rivals such as the Integralist
have been not spared and Vargas regime was able to build up representations that have shaped social memory since so. Integralist leaders were portrayed as pro-coup, ridiculous, fanatical, and pathetic.
