Abstract

Through the current debates in the historiography on the possibilities for studies of intellectuals and magazines as sources of analysis for the historian, it is intended with this article a historical analysis of the Catholic group Permanência, created in Rio de Janeiro in 1968, with In order to investigate its relationship
with Brazilian society, in years marked by authoritarian politics of the Brazilian military regime in the country. It is, therefore, an attempt to reconstruct the historical background of the recent past, printed articles and
forged by intellectuals who participated in the placement of the magazine Permanência. Therefore, we seek to understand the speech of this group in a specific historical moment, marked by a strong division in the hierarchy of the Catholic Church and the political and ideological intellectuals of the Permanência with the military policy of the time.
