Resumen

Since its inception, school uniforms socially equated – over appearance – students of a particular school. This function ceased to prevail with the rise of the fashion phenomenon. Therefore, the fashion participates in everyday life of Brazilian schools and dialogues with school uniforms through the consumption of products that decorate and give status to those who use them. To understand the establishment of such relationship, it’s been transformed in object of study the clothes of the Marista College – using as an observatory point the Marista College in Maringá (PR) - in order to identify how social class distinctions are marked visually by students and how they reaffirm the principles of gender in male and female fashion. The sources used in the study are documents obtained in the College website and images published in Capricho Magazine. The analysis methodology involved the discussion of the "fashion uniform" – educational practices developed by schools and the production of appearances by students by the consumption of goods and services - accessories, makeup, adornments.
