Abstract

A survey conducted in industrial R&D laboratories is the base of this essay on the nature of the managerial work in organizations that deal with science and tecnology. The author concludes that information processing and human relations are the most important factors in management jobs. The determination of executive potential is dealt with, as well as the impact of tradition, hierarchy and training on managerial tasks. A suggestion of how can R&D organizations better plan their management training programs is made.
