Information technology outsourcing and the characteristics of the organizations

Abstract

The goal of this article is to analyze the relationship between the characteristics of companies and its motivations for outsourcing IT. The work introduces initially a literature revision about outsourcing and a motivation model for understanding organizations reasons for outsourcing. Finally, this article associates, through statistical techniques, the characteristics of organizations and their reasons for outsourcing. This article uses the data from a research with 100 companies of the indústrial sector of Brazil. Using the statistical technique of Cluster Analysis, this study identified four companies groups with similar characteristics that adopted IT outsourcing for the same reasons.
