Abstract

In the last 25 years, management theories have been criticized, especially regarding its instrumental feature. As a possible response to this problem, in the 1990's, discussions on spirituality in organizations have intensified. However, despite the growing international interest in this issue, Brazilian academic literature reviews show that studies on this topic are almost inexistent, and the research studies that relate the administrator's formation with the theme of spirituality are even rarer. Thus, our purpose in this study was to understand how the administrator's formation has been developed, regarding the principles of spirituality. To fulfill the objective of our investigation, initially, we performed a theoretical discussion of the key concepts of this paper: criticism about the traditional education of the administrator, spirituality and spirituality in the administrator's formation. The chosen methodology was qualitative, of descriptive-exploratory type, adopting the case study as a methodological strategy. The results indicate, in the analyzed college, a context marked by inhibitors to the administrator's formation that significantly include spirituality.
