The purpose of this work was to evaluate the metabolic effect of troglitazone (TRO, 0.34mg/kg, 15 days, VO) in rat denervated muscles. Rats Wistar were divided in groups (n = 6): control, denervated, treated whit TRO and denervated treated whit TRO. The evaluated parameters were: glycogen content (GLY) of the soleus (S) and white portion of gastrocnemius (G) muscles, S weight, glycaemia, triglicerides, lactate, free fatty acids and transaminase by laboratory kits. The statistical analysis was performed by ANOVA and post-hoc of Tukey (p ≤ 0.05). The results showed that denervation induced significative reduction as much in GLY (S: 53%; G: 47%) as in soleus weight (61%). The TRO did not alter GLY in the control group but increased in the denervated group (S: 61%; G: 46%). This study showed that TRO did not prevent muscle weight loss but minimize the loss reduction in 22%. The treatment did not show toxicity and so, can be an important coadjuvant in treatment of muscular disorders.Downloads
