The paper discusses the context of biomechanics as an academic discipline that composes the body of knowledge of Physical Education and Sports. This review discusses methodological aspects related to the basis of evaluation of human movement, historical aspects, and perspectives of applying knowledge of biomechanics to the nature of professional practice in Physical Education and Sport. Concerning to professional applications, particular emphasis is given to efforts aiming at the optimization of sports performance, the detection of solutions to improve the quality of life, and the control of injuries.Downloads
