Abstract

Currently, there are no published references in Brazil about the real context for future training requirements and research in rowing. Therefore, the present study aimed to show the prescription and control of the training of teams from different countries participating in the 2014 World Rowing Coaches Conference. For that, eighteen subjects (eight Brazilians, two Australians, two Swedes, a Hungarian, a New Zealander, an Italian, a Chinese, a Peruvian and a Dane), answered a questionnaire. On water, the practices show prevalence of 56% to 67% of continuous training in low/moderate intensity (≤ 4mmol. L-1), with no statistical difference between nationalities (χ2 = 0.57 p = 0.44). The requirements of weight training showed a weekly frequency of three sessions in 95% of cases, with more than 60 min. Among the exercises considered the most important include: i) squat, ii) bench row, iii) Olympic weightlifting, iv) bench press and v) deadlift. These data provide important benchmarks for future research and for practical applications in prescribing practice specific to the rowing.
