Abstract

The aim of this study was to verify the influence of social distancing on the lifestyle and emotional symptoms of fighting practitioners. More specifically, we sought to identify data on their sedentary behavior, physical activity, and symptoms of anxiety, depression and stress. This is a cross-sectional, descriptive and comparative study. The investigated sample consisted of 28 people, evaluated through online form with: economic and sociodemographic data sheet; health and physical activity questionnaire; DASS-21 Scale. Significant differences were found between the period before and during the COVID-19 pandemic when comparing the means of the total types of physical activity performed by the participants (p = 0.009) and the reported minimum time of 150 minutes invested weekly in these activities (p = 0.006). A significant part of the sample (p = ≤0.001) stopped practicing fighting/martial arts after the beginning of the pandemic. The reduction in their activities may have occurred due to various situations, such as the closing and restriction of gyms and sports centers. Active behavior can benefit aspects related to physical and emotional health. Thus, it is indicated that the practice of physical activities, including fights and martial arts, should be maintained during the pandemic, even at home, in order to contribute to health and the quality of life and the reduction of sedentary behavior.
