Indigenous Lands Registers of Rondonia State – Brazil Using Mental Maps

Abstract

The Extension Project Register and draw the indigenous lands biogeography of Rondônia State through mental maps was developed at the Federal University of Rondônia, Ji-Paraná city, at the Intercultural Education and Environmental Engineering departments. The methodology included research in the attendance of pupils, step in the University Ji-Paraná, and fieldwork in the villages. There were used interviews and collective production of maps, drawings and written records. Moreover, indigenous teachers worked, with their students in village schools, biogeographic mappings starting from the chart made in the laboratory, which had only the boundaries of indigenous lands. The main results achieved were: the mental maps drawn by indigenous and, from that, the discussion on natural resources from indigenous lands, its use and sustainable management and bio-geographical surveys, in this case, it was given focus to the knowledge of the fauna. Still, as a result of the project, lies in the preparation of materials to support teaching of Geography in indigenous lands.
