Little Naturalists: exploring the educational potential of Museum of Veterinary Anatomy of FMVZ USP

Abstract

The 'Little Naturalists Project' aimed the development of educational activities with teachers and students of Elementary School of two schools in the city of Miracatu, Vale do Ribeira, SP. This article takes into account the results that influenced the structuring of the Educational Program of the Museum of Veterinary Anatomy of FMVZ USP. Inserted in the context of university extension, this project of scientific divulgation approached subjects inherent to the teaching of the Natural Sciences through the identification of animals, environmental conservation, respect and care with life. In addition to these subjects, the project sought ways of learning with these teachers and students in a space different from the reality of their lives: the museal scene. As main results, the project produced the guidelines of the MAV Guide for Teachers, new thematic orientations related to the training of teachers and contributions to the performance of museum monitoring for elementary school students. This project also allowed the expansion of the experience of the Undergraduate students through the interrelation of pedagogical practice between the university museum and the public school, an experience of great value for the discussion involving education and university from the point of view of culture and university extension.
