Abstract

This article aims to analyze the influence of the South Atlantic Convergence Zone (SACZ) on the rainfall in the municipality of Vila Velha (ES) pattern, as related to the occurrence of flooding. The area under study is systematically affected by flood events, coming year after year causing serious social and economic damage to local population. This study identified the SACZ episodes, the rainfall and flood events through the Climanálise magazine INMET, the Integrated Disaster Information (S2ID) and A Tribuna, respectively. From these data it was found that the action of the rain ZCAS influences the rainfall variability, increasing the total rain that end up generating events of floods in the municipality of Vila Velha (ES). The research demonstrated that the SACZ plays an important role on the pattern of the rainfall which can trigger the occurrence of natural disasters brought by the floods. Deep studies on this subject is necessary.
